When using a web site there are some very simple checks to ensure you are not led astray – meaning the information is incorrect.

Incorporated businesses

If a web site includes, “ a company incorporated in England and Wales” rules apply

The web site MUST PUBLISH the Company Number issued when a company is incorporated. If no such number is shown, then check with companies house
Use Company Information Service and select Registered Office Address and simply enter the postcode. The Government search will tell you if the claims of being incorporated are true or FAKE

Charities

Web sites Claiming to be a registered Charity must also show the Charity registration number on their web site – an example of a false claim can often be, “with registered Charity number”

Please use Register of Charities and enter an area/postcode to verify the claim, if there is no entry at that postcode it is FAKE

ICO Press Office

Web sites have a duty, if they collect data, to be registered with ICO, Information Commissioners Office. In the example below we contacted the ICO Press Office.

When checking the Postcode in the Example Text below, the Press Officer for the ICO searched the database for use and stated that no such registration was logged at the ICO – meaning the claims about Data Protection are FAKE
